Latest bids are that's (l to r) Debbie-someone (???) , Jeff and Bobbin. You may well know better!
From l to r, Andrew Oakley appears in a Rosetta Stone tee-shirt, and thats probably Bobbin headbanging and there is the Goldfish, and Axel. At Gas, back in the days when 'it were real club.'
Gas no longer exists, it's now called Embassy and Knights and caters to a more mainstream chart-dance student clientele. Anyone else remember when DJ John did the original Hellrazor?
or to quote The Mission
Heaven and Hell I know them well
but I haven't yet made my choice
Andrew offers us the following snippet on Gas -
And, given the immense volume of useless trivia that you seem to love, I'm surprised that you didn't mention the origin of the name "Gas Nightclub". My mum tells me that when she was at St Mary's College in the 60's, the building was a mains gas pumping station. This is why the building has such a vague floor structure (balconies, lots of stairs, half floors); the building was originally designed without any floors other than the basement, to hold the large vertical machinery.
That's Goldfish again, this one taken by Polly on Weymouth Beach when Goldfish went there with Pol in '93 or 4.
Sitting down we see young Jenny, whose surname I have forgotten but was affectionately known to as Jenny the frog. I have absolutely no idea why; it was one of those nickname things, the same way Goldfish became Goldfish and Chris Dillon became 'Little'. To her right, a slightly younger CJ, wearing a tee-shirt he still wears sometimes five years on. I must buy some new clothes!
CJ, in a photo he doesn't really appreciate, writing a chapter on Spiritualism for his book on his trusty 086, in Axel's old room at Norwood St.
A rare photo of Eric G. before his conversion to respectability and his current career persona. I quite like both looks, but this was a fantastic photo of the old Eric.
Enough of this... CJ, October, 1999
