Notes: Cassandra is a young women of deeply pessimistic attitudes; her ability to see disaster and threats everywhere could have turned her in to an acute anxiety case, but she instead deals with a life filled with horrors by a stoic fatalism and a blind trust that the Dan holds even more ghastly miseries for the future. In fact she positively revels in each further revelation of doom, catastrophe and misery; they cheer her up by reaffirming her basic belief in the utter futility of existence and that death is the only real way out.
She has a romantic attachment to legends of the sea, but is utterly terrified of setting foot on a boat. She speaks fluent Russian and Danish, learnt in endless gossip with the crews of ships which dock at Mistley, and some dreamers from other countries are rumoured to have been entertained in her freehold which lies beneath her shop.
In recent weeks (early November 1999)she has taken to flitting around Mistley at night, wailing and waving her arms in the air, peering through windows, sobbing, and clutching at Kithain's clothes, looking like she might speak, and then dashing off. they put it down to her being a Sluagh and think nothing of it.
