Briefing follows

You have been assigned to a surveillance operation based in Cheltenham, Glos. Your mission parameters, objectives and the mission background are discussed in this document. All these issues, as well as the very existence of your unit, Cassandra 23, are classified TOP SECRET and are not to be discussed, disseminated or in any other way publicised. Security viloations will not be tolerated. You have been assigned to work with Govt. Agent Heather Scott, who may be party to your investigations and will provide you with significant local knowledge and surveillance experience.

Britain expects...

Background
You will be throughly briefed on the nature and scope of your mission by Mr J and Agent Scott. This file contains photographic evidence and dossiers relevant to your operation, and may prove of assistance in succesful completion of your mission goal.

On the night of Thursday 6th April, 2000, at 11.55pm a bright light was observed moving rapidly over Cheltenham in an easterly direction. The light did not register on the Gilman Institutes equipment (they possess a radar unit) and rapid discrete enquiries showed that GCHQ and RAF Brize Norton were also not responding, suggesting they had also made no radar contact, and had not observed the light.

At 12.03 the Gilman Institutes' Directors ordered a team of two security personnel to investigate the light source, which appeared to have landed atop Cleeve Hill, a few kilometers from the Institute building. Two experienced operatives, Geoffrey Fitzhubert and Lisa Ravenscroft were sent to observe and clarify the nature of the UFO.

They were in radio contract with control through the investigation, we include a trancript of the radio traffic between the assigned agents and the control room. It ends with the two security guards apparently being abducted or killed by three 'Greys' after witnessing a classic UFO.

The Security Personnel were working for the Gilman Institute. The key points about that organisation are listed below...

  • The Gilman Institute is a Top Secret government research establishment.
  • The existence of the Institute is classified RED. Its work is classified BLUE. The nature of its experimental programme is classified WHITE, Need to Know, Eyes Only.
  • Should any C23 operative inadvertantly discover anything relating to the activities of the researchers or staff of the Gilman Institute, he or she is to immediately contact Mr. J who will arrange for a debriefing.
  • The Team is not authorised to enter or contact the Gilman Institute. Any reasonable enquiries can be forwarded to the Institute by contacting Mr. J at any time.

There is a further complication; a local UFO group, of paranoid conspiracy theory bent, headed by a Mr John Edwards, managed to take photographs of the UFO as it flew over Cheltenham. He has entered into negotiations with two famous BBC TV Presenters, Jacqueline Hawkins and Judith Prenderghast. From a tap on his phone and discrete surveillance it has been possible to determine that John Edwards plans to meet up with the two women at a local pub, The Lansdown Arms, possibly with other members of his group CUFORG, at 7.30pm tonight. It is imperative that the negatives be recovered and that if at all possible Edwards be discredited as a witness; however a softly softly approach is called for and the women and Edwards must be treated carefully, lest the whole affair blow up all over the media. Under no circumstance are any of the three to be harmed...

So, the mission aims are to -

  • Establish the nature of the UFO which landed on Cleeve Hill.
  • Discover if the UFO activity represents a danger to national security
  • Neutralise any threat posed to national security
  • Discover the fate of the two missing security operatives from the Gilman Institute.
  • Recover the two missing security operatives if possible.
  • Prevent further public discussion or dissemination of material concerning the UFO incident. (Create a 'cover story' and cover up events).
  • Recover any information or technologies which could be useful to the intelligence community.

Toys are issued only for purposes of self defence in extreme circumstances. This is a research and disinformation operation not a bust, and violence and illegalities will not be tolerated, though a certain amount of breaking and entry may be called for. Of course if the team is captured, we will deny all knowledge, and if their identity as Cassandra 23 is blown, they will be 'disposed of' in the interests of national security.

    END BRIEFING
