Andrew Scales

Scales only appeared in one mission, Another Country, but his research and ideas were vital to the team in Remembrance of Things Past. Like Alec West before him and Dr. Ignatius Drake, he was a brilliant scientist who dabbled in things mankind was not meant to know, and he paid the price.

His file from that mission follows, and appended at the end are some notes on your findings...

SUBJECT: Andrew Scales

DOB: 01/08/71
OCCUPATION: Managing Director, Westgate Press

ACADEMIC NOTES

Scales was in line for a 1st class honors degree at Cambridge, but his student sideline as a freelance programmer, computer magazine journalist, and nightclub/pirate radio DJ meant that he did not dedicate enough time to his studies. His parents' considerable wealth meant he endured none of the hardships typically associated with student life. He values practical job skills over academic study.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE

During his time as a subcontractor on Aerospace Computing Technology projects for the MOD, Scales was found to be a brilliant overachiever. Despite his high degree of intelligence, his psychometric test results were declared meaningless as he was able to manipulate the answers to give the desired responses.

Despite his qualifications, Scales is a "slacker" underachiever content to work only enough to maintain his lifestyle. Colleagues describe him as brilliant but potentially highly dangerous.

CONTACTS PROFILE

Director of the Westgate Press, which is extraordinarily influential in the worldwide gothic subculture through its publications. He is known to have frequented pirate radio stations as a student and may have knowledge of radio-related electronic engineering.

MEDICAL PROFILE

Scales is overweight and is a keen restaurant-goer, but he also participates in long-distance walking and swimming. He is not aware that his "hay fever" is actually due to living next to a GMO maize field. He has never had major medical issues but occasionally suffers from stress, keyboard injuries, and back problems from desk work.

When confronted, Scales uses his height and bulk to his advantage. Though non-violent by nature, he can be highly aggressive when provoked, often responding with excessive force.

NOTES

Scales worked on computer projects for the MOD between 1994 and 1997. His computer files from this period are missing, presumed lost. Tax records show that Westgate Press has an annual turnover exceeding £3.4 million, with most revenue coming from art and internet book sales in occult and erotic genres. Scales is known to own modified air pistols, though he does not take them outside his house or garden.

In Another Country, Scales was responsible for sending the team back in time via a temporal gate device at Hailes Abbey to 1922, which helped them achieve their mission. However, he later tried to take the Necronomicon from them, threatening to expose C23 if they refused. Though his death never became public, it is believed that Scales was killed moments after the team left the Lovecraft House, apparently by a Hound of Tindalos.

All of this is, of course, fictional and part of the Cassandra 23 live role-playing game! Full details on the game can be found here.
